Tips for Installing a New Condenser Coil

The weather will be getting warmer soon and air conditioning systems will start up again after being dormant for a few months. If the AC system isn’t working properly and you need to install a new condenser coil, here are a few tips:

  • Clean the condenser coil with a solution designed for coils prior to installation.
  • Make sure space is maintained between the condenser coil and guards, fans, and other structures.
  • Use an inert gas purge (like nitrogen) for field brazing and welding to reduce possible contamination of the condenser coil.
  • Make sure to securely connect all valves, fittings and bypass lines to the condenser coil.
  • When pressurizing the condenser coil, test it for at least 10 minutes to make sure the pressure remains the same and there are no leaks. If the pressure drops, repressurize and test for 10 more minutes. If the pressure drops again, check for leaks in the condenser coil, valves and fittings.
  • Clear the condenser coil and piping using a vacuum pump. Test the system for at least 60 seconds to make sure the vacuum holds. If the vacuum doesn’t hold, check for excessive moisture or a small leak.
